What is eMush?

eMush is a revival of Mush by Eternaltwin, a browser game originally developed by Motion Twin.

The game takes place in a space opera universe, where a crew of 16 people must survive aboard a ship called the Daedalus. However, 2 crew members are secretly infected by an alien parasite (the Mush) and must do everything they can to sabotage humanity.

Setting and universe

  • Humanity is at war with an alien entity known as the Template:Personnage, an organism capable of possessing and controlling humans.
  • The Daedalus is tasked with saving humanity by escaping the Mush while developing a cure against it.

Game principle

  • Each player takes on the role of one of the 16 crew members aboard the ship, each with their own unique role and skills.
  • Humans must cooperate to carry out all the tasks necessary for survival, create a cure for the Mush, and try to unmask the infected hiding among them.
  • Two players are secretly Mush and must continue pretending to be human until they manage to eliminate all humans, either by infecting them so they become Mush themselves, or by assassinating them.

Gameplay and mechanics

eMush is primarily a roleplaying game, where your actions are limited by your character’s Action Points Template:PA (AP) and Movement Points Template:PM (MP).

  • Each action costs a certain number of Template:PA, which regenerate over time.
  • Moving your character from one room of the ship to another consumes Template:PM, which regenerate in the same way (though not necessarily at the same speed!).

In eMush, each day is divided into 8 cycles of three hours.

  • At the start of each cycle, fixed or random events may occur (see Hazards), and part of the players’ personal resources regenerate.
  • Any event occurring outside the start of a Cycle is therefore caused by a player's action (except for certain delayed effects of Mush Skills).

A large part of the game revolves around communication and observing the actions of other players. You can communicate through a discussion channel shared by all players, or through private channels by selecting the people you wish to talk to. Depending on your role aboard the ship, you may investigate Mush, conduct research, repair the ship, lead expeditions, and more...

Objective of the game

  • If you are human, you have two possible victory conditions: return to Sol, or reach Eden, all without any Mush aboard.
  • If you are Mush, your goal is to destroy the crew of the Daedalus by any means necessary. Sometimes your sacrifice will be required to achieve this. Eradicating humanity matters far more than your own survival!

Depending on the survival capabilities of the crew, you may collectively choose (or not) one of the possible endings of the game (see Game Endings):

  • The Daedalus has been destroyed… equivalent to a defeat for the human faction.
  • The Daedalus has returned to Sol… WITHOUT the Template:Objet equivalent to a victory for the human faction (if the crew considers it as such) EXCEPT if there are still Mush aboard
  • The Daedalus has returned to Sol… WITH the Template:Objet equivalent to a victory for the human faction EXCEPT if there are still Mush aboard
  • The Daedalus has departed for Eden… equivalent to an exceptional victory for the human faction EXCEPT if there are still Mush aboard

Essential strategies and principles

Certain gameplay principles form the foundation of eMush. Knowing them is essential to play effectively and avoid being accused of being a Mush during your first experience with the game.
