Since the game is based on cooperation, chat channels are very important.

There are several channels (tabs), each with a specific purpose:

  • Discussion: The general chat channel with other players
  • Favorites: The discussion threads you have added to your favorites
  • Private: Private channels open with one or more players
    • The tab with a plus sign allows you to open others (3 maximum).
  • Mush: Mush plants have an additional dedicated channel (distinguished by the icon )

Details by tab

Discussion

The global discussion channel.

To access it, at least one of these conditions must be met: You also cannot have a silencing injury such as:
  • Ear disabled
  • Ears pulverized
Typing //generates a line break.

Favorites

The favorites tab groups together discussions that you have decided to follow more closely (for example, an inventory thread).

  • The restrictions are identical to those in the General Discussion channel.
  • These favorites are saved (although inaccessible) if you lose access to the Discussion channel.

Private Channels

You can create or be invited to  private channels , up to a limit of 3 at a time per player.

To access it, the participants must be able to speak to each other via the global channel or be in the same room. The invited person must also have one of their three available channels free.

Note: The silence-inducing injuries mentioned for the global channel prevent reading messages, but do not cause you to leave private channels.

All participants can invite new interlocutors, who will see the discussion from the beginning.
  • You cannot eject a participant.
  • You can leave the channel voluntarily. Once the last participant has left, the channel and its content will be lost.
Inputs and outputs are recorded:
  • A member leaving.
  • Walkie-talkie put down or you leaving the room.
  • Dying.
  • Mutating.

Whisper

Whispering allows you to quickly create a private channel with a character present in the same room.

Mush

The mush have a dedicated pheromone channel, which is always accessible to them.

  • The Pheromodem research gives access to humans with their Tracker or  iTrackie ®© in working order in inventory, but with automatic names scrambled.
  • The Patulin Jammer search renders all player messages, including old ones, unreadable.

This channel also records human infections or conversions, specifying the author mush, the target, the means and the level of infection.

Other ways to converse

If no channel is accessible, other makeshift means of communication remain:

  • Write with the Sticky Note Pad
  • For the Communications Manager: send an announcement. This announcement will appear in the Tips tab for all players.
  • As a last resort, repeatedly place/pick up an object, repeatedly invite people to a private channel…
