== Create a Plant ==

It is possible to create a new plant using the following actions:

* An empty {{Item|Hydropot|16}} must be present on the shelf
* The fruit and the {{Item|Hydropot|16}} are then converted into the corresponding '''Young Plant''' [[File:Status-plant-youngling.png]]
{{Action|Graft: <fruit>|2|Garden}} a fruit on an existing plant. This avoids having to wait for the plant to die before retrieving the pot and planting something else in its' place.

* A piece of fruit must be present in the inventory
* If successful, the plant and fruit are converted into a '''Young Plant''' [[File:Status-plant-youngling.png]] (age 1) of the fruit used
* If it fails, the plant dies and the fruit is lost {{Warning Inline|Grafting will fail if you are '''dirty''' [[File:Status-stinky.png]], or if the plant is '''diseased''' [[File:Status-plant-diseased.png]], '''thirsty''' [[File:Status-plant-thirsty.png]], or '''dried out''' [[File:Status-plant-dry.png]]}}
The status of the fruit or the fact that it carries a disease does not affect the grafting.

The exact order for the change of day is:

# It becomes '''an adult''' when it reaches its maturity age. ''A plant sown in cycle 1 and requiring 8 cycles to mature will be an adult and will produce from the very next day's cycle 1.''
# '''Produced''' if the individual is an adult and in good health.
# It dries '''out''' and can eventually become '''diseased''' . ''So getting sick at this point does not prevent production.''

Even when hidden, plants produce fruit and oxygen if they meet the above conditions.

== Dead ==
A plant can die if it is not watered for 2 days or if a graft fails.

* When a plant dies, it leaves an empty {{Item|Hydropot|16}}
* A plant can also be destroyed by fire and will leave its {{Item|Hydropot|16}}

It is therefore recommended to keep the plants on crew members when fires become frequent.

== Features ==
Only a {{Skill|Botanist}}, {{Skill|Chef}}, or {{Character|Mush}} can see the effects of a fruit.

Botanists can also see the remaining maturation time of plants and receive 2 '''Gardening Points''' {{AP|Garden}} per day.
