Gardening
Although rather simple, gardening is essential to the ship's self-sufficiency, helping to maintain oxygen, food, and morale.
- The activities are messy, so wearing an
Apron is recommended
Create a Plant
Dirty: both of these actions are messy.
It is possible to create a new plant using the following actions:
a fruit.
- An empty
Hydropot must be present on the shelf - The fruit and the
Hydropot are then converted into the corresponding Young Plant
a fruit on an existing plant. This avoids having to wait for the plant to die before retrieving the pot and planting something else in its' place.
- A piece of fruit must be present in the inventory
- If successful, the plant and fruit are converted into a Young Plant
(age 1) of the fruit used - If it fails, the plant dies and the fruit is lost
Warning: Grafting will fail if you are dirty
, or if the plant is diseased
, thirsty
, or dried out
The status of the fruit or the fact that it carries a disease does not affect the grafting.
| Killing a plant by a failed graft and then sowing can be faster and cheaper than maintaining the space for grafting, in addition to not requiring cleanliness |
Production
Each plant produces at the change of day, unless it is a Young Plant
, Diseased
or Dried Out
:
- One unit of oxygen
, directly added to the reserves. - 1 fruit
of its kind unless it is thirsty
Info: {{{text}}}
The exact order for the change of day is:
- It becomes an adult when it reaches its maturity age. A plant sown in cycle 1 and requiring 8 cycles to mature will be an adult and will produce from the very next day's cycle 1.
- Produced if the individual is an adult and in good health.
- It dries out and can eventually become diseased . So getting sick at this point does not prevent production.
Even when hidden, plants produce fruit and oxygen if they meet the above conditions.
Dead
When a plant dies, it leaves an empty
Hydropot
A plant can die if:
- The day changes while the plant is Dried Out

- A graft attempt on the plant fails
- Four cycles pass without treatment after becoming Diseased

- Caught in a fire
| When fires become frequent, consider storing active plants in crew inventories to keep them safe |
Features
Only a
Botanist,
Chef, or
Mush can see the effects of a fruit.
Botanists can also see the remaining maturation time of plants and receive 2 Gardening Points
per day.
"This plant is young. It will not produce oxygen or fruit until it ripens."
Every new plant starts with the Young Plant
status and two attributes:
| Titled | Base | If in the Garden |
|---|---|---|
| Age | Starts at 0, or at 1 if grafted. | If
|
| Maturation Age | Depends on the species and the plant.
|
Identical |
Once it reaches maturity, the plant becomes an adult :
| Since a young plant does not produce anything, there is no point in watering it, unless it is dried out |
“This plant is diseased; it will produce neither fruit nor oxygen.”
At each change of cycle, a plant can become diseased . A diseased plant will produce neither fruit nor oxygen during the change of day
- Unless it is in the Garden and the
Nano-Ladybugs project is completed
Dirty: high chance! allows you to remove this status.
- Any player can treat a plant, but without the
Botanist skill, they cannot identify whether a plant is diseased or not - risking wasted
“This plant is thirsty; it will only produce oxygen. If it is not watered, it will become withered tomorrow.”
A plant has the status "Thirsty" if it has not been watered that day. It will not produce fruit when the day changes
allows you to remove this status.
Dried
“This plant is dried out; it will produce neither fruit nor oxygen. If it is not watered, it will be dead tomorrow.”
If a plant has not been watered for a day, it becomes Dried
. A Dried
plant will die at the change of day.
allows you to remove this status.
