Hunger is a hidden mechanic that requires humans to eat to survive.
| The |
Satiety
Human characters have a hidden
Satiety stat.
- It starts at 0
at the beginning of the game, and it can be raised by eating Consumables. - It decreases by 1
per cycle (2
with the
Tapeworm disease).
At 3
and above, a character gains the
Full Stomach status (private).
- A character with a Full Stomach is unable to eat any consumables until the status disappears.
Starvation
If a character's Satiety stays at 0 for 24 consecutive cycles (3 days), they will begin
Starving. A starving character loses 1
per cycle (private).
- Any Consumable (even those that don't give
, except for Drugs) automatically reset this count to 0 + the
provided by the ingested consumable. - A character whose health drops to 0 due to
Starving will die of Starvation.
Conserving Food
Though starvation is not often a major concern, one should still be mindful of the ship's food stores.
- The ship starts with 32
Standard Rations. This may seem like a lot, but some characters (such as researchers and pilots) will want to eat as often as they can to aid the
Mush hunt. Therefore, the ship can run out of food fairly quickly! - Drinking
Coffee from the Coffee Machine can help stave off hunger. This becomes especially helpful once
PILGRED is operational. If
Fission Coffee Roaster is finished, the provided coffee can keep the crew from starving indefinitely.
Alien Steaks retrieved from expeditions can be eaten raw, or transformed into
Standard Rations with the
Superfreezer.- Plants produce fruits that provide Satiety,
, and/or
. Faster-growing alien fruits can be retrieved from expeditions.
Remember that once a character begins
Starving, they can be kept alive so long as the crew is mindful to continuously heal them.
For Mush
The
Mush can eat in the same way as humans.[1] However, food does not grant them any
or other benefits, and they do not starve if they don't eat.
- This can lead to interesting effects if a Mush is cured with the
Retro-Fungal Serum (as they will immediately begin starving if they haven't eaten for long enough), or if they
Transfer into another body (as the human who swaps into their old body may begin starving).
| Humans might start to grow suspicious if they realize that you aren't worried about starvation. Make sure you eat occasionally to maintain the illusion of humanity! |
