The BIOS terminal

The BIOS Terminal is a piece of equipment located in the Nexus. It allows the operator to modify NERON's settings.

  • It can only be accessed by the  NERON Admin.
  • The user need not be clean to access it.
  • Any crewmember can force access with the Hacker Kit Hacker Kit (or with BypassBypass for Icon Mush).
  • Its parameters can be randomly scrambled by NERON DepressionNERON Depression.

The following settings may be configured (with recommended settings being highlighted):

Foodstuff Destruction

Determines whether perishable foods (including cooked rations, fruits, and coffee) are automatically destroyed during daychange.

Yes (Default)
No

It is usually best to turn this setting off to avoid destroying food.

  • Food is vital and must be rationed to avoid Starving Starving. Allowing expired rations to be destroyed is a waste.
  • The Icon Mush cannot be sick! Thus, allowing characters to become ill from expired rations can determine whether or not they are human.

CPU Priority

Allows the user to slightly improve the crew's efficiency in the selected area. (This setting may only be changed once per day.)

Projects: increases efficiency by 1% (for example, from 18%-27% to 19%-28%).
Astronavigation : +1 zone is revealed per planet analysis.
Research : increases efficiency by 1% (for example, from 18%-27% to 19%-28%).
None (Default)

It is generally recommended to set the priority to Astronavigation, which makes scanning planets much more cost-effective. However, it may be worth changing this setting based on context:

  • Even a 1% gain can save a significant amount of Action Point for larger projects/researches like the icon Plasma Shield and the icon Retro-Fungal Serum.
  • Even for smaller projects/researches, saving Action Point can be beneficial for the crew (especially if you're trying to rush them out in a shorter amount of time).

Crew Lock

Prevents the crew from partaking in:

Projects: Only DesignerDesigners can access NERON's Core (and thus participate in Projects).
Research: Only BiologistBiologists and MedicMedics can access the Laboratory terminal (and thus participate in Researches).
Piloting: Only PilotPilots can take off in Patrollers, the Pasiphae, or the Icarus. (Default)

Always keep this on Piloting so you don't interfere with research and project progression.

  • If the ship lacks capable pilots, the  NERON Admin. can temporarily switch the lock. However, it should always be switched back to Piloting once hunters have been dealt with or expeditions have been launched.

Vocoder Announcement

Allows the  NERON Admin. to speak as NERON in the text chat, accomplished by starting their message with /neron (in lowercase).

Yes
No (Default)

For the most part, this is used for role-play and can be used without issue. However, a crafty Icon Mush  NERON Admin. could use this to create false announcements and create confusion amongst the crew.

Report Deaths

When activated, NERON will automatically announce the death and cause of death of any crewmate.

Yes
No

Always keep this on. However, a Icon Mush could disable this before a rampage to cause confusion amongst the crew.

Inhibit ᴅᴍᴢ-ᴄᴏʀᴇᴘᴇᴀᴄᴇ

When enabled, humans are prevented from using Grenade Grenades. (Icon Mush may still use grenades without limits.)

When active, NERON's speech is much more juvenile and incoherent. When deactivated, NERON's messages become more intelligent, yet also more psychopathic (indicating that his moral and functional constraints have been removed).

Yes (Default)
No

This setting is generally left to the crew's discretion, based on how they want to RP NERON. However, it can be useful to turn it off if the crew needs to deal with a large number of concentrated Icon Mush using a grenade.

Plasma Shield

Enables or disables the icon Plasma Shield (if completed).

Active
Inactive (Default)

There is no reason for the  NERON Admin. not to enable this as soon as possible, unless they wish to sabotage the crew.

Magnetic Net

Enables or disables the icon Magnetic Net (if completed).

Yes (Default)
No

This should generally be enabled, allowing pilots to be returned to the ship without needing to land. However, it may be disabled if you wish to abandon someone who's outside the ship (and accept the loss of whatever ship they're in).
