Summary

Replacing Chao as the Daedalus's security chief, Derek is charged with keeping the crew safe. His main job is to act as the armed wing of the investigation, taking down Mush with impressive speed. Aside from this, he can be a competent generalist.

Derek Hogan is assigned to the security of the Daedalus. Robust and self-confident, he will be a significant asset for the success of this extreme mission. His past is a succession of events, each more incredible than the last. Derek has experienced everything, Sol's battlefields, the suicide missions of Tau-Ceti... Yet, he is always looking for a soul mate. Since his hasty departure from his home, Derek has dedicated his existence to women, but without success.

Tips

• Though Derek specializes in combat (aka, hunting the Mush) his generalist nature makes him good for a variety of tasks, whether that be relaying Research and Projects, managing crises, or going on expeditions. Help out wherever you're needed most!
• You are a good candidate for Mage Books. However, you should always consult the rest of the crew before reading one.
• Are you low on ? If you do the thing, you'll become the happiest man on the crew!

Skill Notes

• Shooter is not only useful against the Mush, but also for targeting Hunters with the ship's turrets.
• Wrestler will let you effectively take out dangerous crewmates with nothing but your bare hands!
• Firefighter is dangerous to use, but taking it could make Derek a fire-fighting machine on long-running ships. Especially useful if the Mush have broken the Extinguishers.
• Motivator is pretty niche; however, if the crew has a habit of bunching up (such as for a Leader's speeches), it could be handy.
• Hygienist is invaluable for the Mush hunt. It makes converting Derek extremely impractical (on average, the Mush would need to spike you 6 times to convert you), and it also makes it more difficult for them to Transfer into your body. It has some utility during Expeditions, giving Derek the chance to absorb diseases.

If Mush

Derek's combat-oriented skillset is a double-edged sword when playing as a Mush. On one hand, it makes him an excellent human-slayer; on the other hand, the crew knows exactly how dangerous you are, and they may grow very suspicious if they see you stockpiling your , or trying to take a bed for yourself.

• Use your combat skills to strike when the time is right! Combining Fertile and Phagocyte will help you fill in your deficit, while Hard Boiled will make you difficult to kill.
• Support your partner with skills like Mycelium Spirit or Anonymush.

Trivia

• Derek and Andie were added in Episode III of the original Mush, replacing Chao and Finola. From then on, the pairs would rotate every update.
• Like Andie, Derek's portrait is done by a different artist from the other characters.
