Read biography

"The most dangerous cook in the galaxy is on board. He has more black-belts than pairs of trousers and he collects roadkill. Alien flesh is like catnip to Stephen. We thought you should know."

Summary

Don't be fooled - Stephen is no ordinary chef. Not only does his skillset make him an excellent fighter, but his unique ApprenticeApprentice ability lets him copy any other skill present on the ship, once per game. His incredible versatility lets him intervene wherever he is needed most.

Stephen was a bellboy on an interplanetary train, then a slave in a Mexican cobalt mine, a senator in the Chili Con Latte coalition, a space mercenary, a private federal tax collector, money launderer, kidnapper of young girls, Boxylium miner, SDF military chef, and condemned to death. His trip takes him to Xyloph-17 where he is accidentally cryogenized, and shipped aboard the Daedalus.

Tips

  • As a generalist, you may be asked to help out in various places around the ship. Listen to the rest of the crew and go where you're needed.
  • Participate in research and projects. Even without the necessary skills, your relays will be greatly appreciated.
  • Thanks to SolidSolid and ShooterShooter, you're well-prepared for a fight against the Icon Mush. Keep an eye out, and be ready to defend yourself if need be!
  • Be mindful of when you use ApprenticeApprentice. The ability to copy any other skill in play can be very powerful, but it's also permanent; don't waste it on something that isn't needed.

Skill Notes

  • ChefChef allows you to easily freeze any Alien Steak Alien Steak brought back from expeditions, making them unperishable. However, a Chef Mage Book Mage Book is guaranteed to drop from the Xylophs. The ship doesn't really need two chefs, especially since most people prefer to cook their own rations (to avoid Fungal KitchenFungal Kitchen). Thus, you might want to skip this skill.
  • SolidSolid makes you stronger, but it's not the best choice for killing crewmates; you'll be outperformed by a WrestlerWrestler or by anyone with a Knife Knife. Still, it's better than your bare hands, and it can be useful for shoving people out of rooms if need be (such as a clingy Icon Ian).
  • OpportunistOpportunist should be avoided because of its situational and very limited bonus. It's also lost if you become a Icon Mush!
  • ShooterShooter is useful both during and beyond the Mush hunt. It's especially good if you decide to Apprentice PilotPilot, which will allow you to help Icon Roland take down Hunters!
  • ApprenticeApprentice enables some of the most interesting combos in the game. You could become a PilotPilot, and help take out Hunters; a TechnicianTechnician, to fix things around the ship; a ShrinkShrink, to become a second Icon Janice; a TorturerTorturer, to help search for Mush; or a TrackerTracker, in case Icon Eleesha can't or won't print THE List THE List. It is highly valued by crews because it lets you take the skill of a suspected Icon Mush before they die, so you can replace them.
  • CreativeCreative is generally helpful in combat (either against Hunters or your own comrades).

If Mush

  • Your versatility gives you a good alibi for being in various parts of the ship, which can help justify your missing Action Point. Volunteer for activities like loading fuel so you have good reasons to be Dirty.
  • You have a good selection of aggressive skills. Choose them wisely!
  • Use your ApprenticeApprentice to benefit your team. Combat-oriented skills could help you kill the humans faster; TechnicianTechnician could help you dismantle important items, or have better reasons to be dirty; PilotPilot could enable you to fly away with critical objects; et cetera.

Trivia

  • Stephen's name and appearance appear to be based on the real-life movie star Steven Seagal.
