"Brilliant biologist and hardcore rebel markswoman, she is driven by the need to recontact Kivanç Terzi. Her technical and logistical skills are highly prized."
Summary
As the Daedalus's communications expert, Paola is the queen of the Bridge. She is generally expected to stay at the comms terminal, where she provides various bonuses to other visiting crewmates. Once all the Communications are finished, she can easily switch to defending the Daedalus via turrets, or read a
Mage Book to learn new skills.
| Daughter of the shipowner Gioele Rinaldo. She lives in the constant hope of leading an adventure which will shake up her life. To denounce the Federation's post-colonial system, she starts a pirate radio station on her campus with her boyfriend Kivanç Terzi. On this occasion, she accidentally intercepted disturbing communications informing her of an impending Mush invasion. Fleeing for her life, she meets up with her father who permits her to board the Daedalus, abandoning the man of her life on Earth. | |

Tips
- You can't do any work until the connection with Sol has been re-established. Ask your crewmates to help you reconnect each day until a signal has been established. You'll have to repeat this process when Xylophs inevitably break the signal again.
- Ask the crew to build a
Swedish Sofa in the Bridge. Communications work is an
-intensive task, so the chance to rest will be very appreciated. - Your primary goal should be to decode Xyloph data. However, remember to decode the important rebel bases when they become available, since their bonuses are permanently lost if they're missed!
Main article: Communications.
- Some Xylophs provide important items or data that is vital to the Mush hunt, particularly
Finola's List and the
Mush Genome Disc. Communicate privately with trusted people (especially
Chun) when you find these. - Once the Xylophs are finished, you can begin work on NERON updates. Each update completes a random Project.
- Some Xylophs provide important items or data that is vital to the Mush hunt, particularly
- On long-term ships, prepare to take on another task for when the Mush are gone. You may want to take
Gunner,
Biologist, or use a
Mage Book.
Skill Notes
Radio Expert is very useful close to the beginning of the ship, since it saves lots of
and ensures that you can get to work faster. However, it becomes much less useful once a reliable signal has been established (and on long-term ships, it becomes entirely useless once all your Comms work is done).
Logistics Expert is essential for Paola. It allows her to take the Bridge sofa guilt-free, since she can support other bridge-goers with her passive
bonus. It should generally be used by the chief astrophysicist, often
Frieda.
Shooter stacks well with Gunner, allowing Paola to be effective on turrets once her comms work is done.
Biologist, though helpful, is often skipped since Paola is expected to work on the Bridge rather than the Laboratory. However, it may still be worth choosing if
Finola or
Ian are unable to do their work.
Rebel allows you to save lots of
when decoding rebel bases, which are very useful for the ship. However, as with Radio Expert, it becomes useless after a point (once all bases are either decoded or skipped).
Gunner is very practical when eliminating Hunters and gives Paola something to do once her comms work is finished. The turrets are weak compared to Patrollers, combined with Shooter, items like the
Invertebrate Shell, and/or certain Projects, Paola can be a real help to the pilots. It's especially useful for destroying Aracks so the ship can move.
If Mush
Paola is one of the most difficult characters to play as a
Mush. She has few excuses to leave the Bridge, where she has no opportunities to naturally get
Dirty. Nevertheless, she does not have to be a burden to the Mush team.
- Your comms work is the only way to obtain the
Mush Genome Disc, an item that is critical to lategame research projects. - Help your team with passive skills like
Mycelium Spirit and
Anonymush. - Take advantage of offers from merchant ships, which allow you to trade (and thus eliminate) crewmates who have wandered into storage rooms.
- If you're lucky enough to have three tradeable crewmates, you may occasionally get the option to trade them for PILGRED completion, which will allow you to head straight to Sol...
- If worst comes to worst, use
Transfer to swap into a body more useful to you - preferably one with a weapon, or skills like
Wrestler or
Solid.
