Oxygen is one of the Daedalus's most important resources (commonly referred to as O2 or O²).

  • The ship begins with 20Oxygen. Until mushs appear, oxygen quantity stays at this level.
  • The maximum oxygen that can be stored is 32Oxygen.

Oxygen is stored in Oxygen Reservoirs, two of which are located in the ship's central storage rooms.

Consumption

An oxygen tank

During each cycle change, 1Oxygen is consumed.

  • This consumption is increased by 1Oxygen for each broken oxygen reservoir (which causes o2 to leak into space).
    • Thus, if 1 reservoir is broken, 2Oxygen is consumed on cycle change; if 2 reservoirs are broken, 3Oxygen are consumed.
    • When an oxygen tank fails during cycle change, the leak is only taken into account starting from the next cycle change.
  • The loss has a 20% chance of being reduced by 1Oxygen each cycle if the icon Oxygenated Ducts project is completed.
  • If the oxygen level drops to 0 during cycle change, a random crewmate will immediately die of asphyxiation. Icon Warning: This occurs even if there are plants that will produce oxygen upon daychange!

Contrary to popular belief, oxygen consumption is NOT influenced by the number of crewmates onboard or by active fires.

It is possible to remove oxygen from Oxygen Reservoirs.

  • This action provides an Oxygen Capsule Oxygen Capsule which cannot be dropped.
    • The only way to remove it is to inject it back into the tank, or to use it by assembling a Blueprint Blueprint.
  • It is not possible to remove or insult a capsule into a broken oxygen tank.
  • Carrying a capsule will prevent you from asphyxiating when the ship is out of oxygen. When oxygen reaches 0, characters with no capsules in their inventory will suffocate first.
    • If all players have at least one capsule, then the character with the fewest capsules is chosen at random and one of their capsules is consumed.

Sources

Oxygen can be gained through various means:

  • Mature Plants matures each produce 1 Oxygen on daychange, so long as they are not Sick or Thirsty. More info Main article: Gardening.
    • Oxygen self-sufficiency is not possible at the start of the game, since the Daedalus only starts with 5 Hydropot Hydropots, only two of which contain mature Banana Trees. However, it is possible to obtain 2 more hydropots with Green ThumbGreen Thumb, 3 more hydropots with the icon Extra Hydropots project, and additional hydropots through rare trades.
  • The best source of Oxygen is Exploration, specifically exploring planets with an Oxygen sector. Exploring this sector will yield either 0Oxygen, 8Oxygen, 16Oxygen or 24Oxygen. If oxygen is gained, it will be placed into the reservoirs at the end of the expedition (meaning it will not be gained if the entire expedition is lost).
  • Merchants may offer oxygen as part of a trade.
  • Space Capsule Space Capsules may contain when opened. Space Capsules can be found while salvaging debris in the Pasiphae.
  • Icon Terrence may find Oxygen Capsule Oxygen Capsules with his ScrapperScrapper skill.

Tips

  • Make sure that Icon Ian and Icon Hua are keeping the ship's plants healthy to maximize daily oxygen gains.
  • Ensure that you repair oxygen leaks as soon as possible.
  • Astrophysicists (such as Icon Frieda) should primarily focus on finding oxygen-rich planets to explore.
