Summary

As an elite pilot, Roland's main job is to take down Hunters. Supported by his sidekicks Icon Hua and Icon Terrence, he can become the Federation's worst nightmare. With the right skills, he can also be very mobile and capable of handling disasters around the ship.

After a tumultuous but nonetheless brilliant ascent to the FDS Academy for elite pilots, Roland Zuccali is finally grounded after testing positive for a Mush infection. Manipulated by his superiors despite being proven innocent, Roland loses all confidence in the FDS and finally deserts during the Dirty War against the rebels. He then becomes the pilot of the Daedalus.

Tips

  • Coordinate with the other pilots via threads or channels to organize rotations for killing Hunters and collecting scrap.
    More info Main article: Piloting.
  • Piloting is an Action Point-intensive activity, so make sure that you get a bed. If the pilots have been struggling, you should push to have pilot-supporting Projects completed.
  • Examine your patrol ship before you take off to make sure it has enough charges! You don't want to waste Action Point launching a ship, only to find out it has no ammo.
  • Never use the Pasiphae if there are non-destroyed Hunters outside the ship. (The Hunters will fire upon, and likely destroy, the Pasiphae if it tries to collect scrap.)

Skill Notes

  • SprinterSprinter will enable you to run around the ship, making you better for movement-based tasks than anyone else. Keep in mind that it doesn't stack with the Anti-Grav Scooter Anti-Grav Scooter.
  • PilotPilot is essential for Roland - he can't hunt down Hunters if he can't fly the Patrollers! As usual, remember that piloting is a very Action Point-intensive activity, so you should get a bed.
  • ShooterShooter is a popular choice for Roland as it allows him to take down Hunters much more efficiently. Should you get your hands on a Blaster Blaster, you can also help take down the Mush once they're exposed.
  • FirefighterFirefighter is dangerous to use, and it's not one of Roland's best skills. In combination with Sprinter or Creative, though, it can make him a fire-fighting machine in long-running ships.
  • The OptimistThe Optimist is both greedy and very contextual. There's no good reason to take it over Roland's other skills.
  • CreativeCreative is helpful for a variety of tasks, but it is especially a boon for shooting down enemy ships.

Recommendations:

  • PilotPilot / ShooterShooter / CreativeCreative will make you the ultimate hunter of Hunters, but you won't be good at much else.
  • PilotPilot / SprinterSprinter / FirefighterFirefighter will allow you to perform your piloting duties while also being handy around the ship. However, you'll likely need some more help taking down Hunters.

If Mush

Although his expected role as a pilot drains his energy, Roland can still be useful for the Icon Mush team.

  • Eating to shoot down Hunters gives you a good excuse to be Dirty, as does firefighting or repairs.
  • You can use TrapperTrapper to infect other pilots in the bays, especially since they aren't common destinations for a Myco-alarm Myco-alarm.
  • Taking ShooterShooter can make him an excellent fighter, should the Mush decide to go for a rampage.
  • As a PilotPilot, Roland can make one last hurrah by grabbing critical equipment and taking off in the Pasiphae, forcing the human team to leave them behind.
