"An eccentric billionaire, caffeine-junkie and owner of the Daedalus, his fortune is threatened by the Mush menace. He will do everything in his power to wipe it out. Not to be underestimated!"
Summary
Although he may not immediately look useful, Gioele finds his own niche on the ship during crises. He is the ultimate generalist (along with
Stephen) and he can help perform most jobs that need doing. His performance can be greatly boosted by
Coffee, and his diverse skillset makes him a practical (even essential) choice in the long term.

Gioele is the ship-owner. He is a billionaire from Earth who is obsessed by space travel, and who financed the initial Daedalus project. Faced with the Mush menace, Gioele panicked and in extremis, with the help of the designers, managed to get a job aboard the ship as a navigator. He also managed to eject a biologist from the original crew to make space for his daughter Paola.

Tips
- Gioele is a good choice for beginners who are learning the game. Beware, though: he is third in line to receive the
Commander title, so you should be prepared to have to captain the ship in an emergency.
- As a generalist, you are very versatile. Help out wherever is needed, whether that be relaying researches/projects, loading fuel, or putting out fires.
- You may be expected to take
Astrophysicist and scan planets on the Bridge if
Frieda and
Kuan Ti are unable to do so.
- If you take
Caffeine Junkie, be sure to let everyone else know to let you be first in line to drink coffee. Coffee only regenerates once per day (until PILGRED has been repaired, after which it regenerates four times per day.)
Skill Notes
Solid isn't an amazing skill, but it can be very useful during the Mush hunt. Not only does it allow you to kill things more easily, but you can also move around heavy objects like the
Superfreezer or kick out a too-clingy
Ian.
Paranoid is a great choice, as the extra camera allows the crew to designate more "safe zones" around the ship (usually the Bridge or Nexus). Passing it up might make you unpopular among the crew.
Caffeine Junkie may not seem very good when you wake up, but it is essential on long-running ships. Once PILGRED is repaired, you'll gain an extra 4
every two cycles! This can be further enhanced with coffee-improving projects and researches, making Gioele a war machine with the most
on the ship.
Astrophysicist, when combined with Caffeine Junkie, can make you an even better planet-scanner than
Frieda.
Panic is so situational that it's rendered totally useless. Skip it.
Victimizer is theoretically good if used against a confirmed
Mush. However, it can become a huge detriment if you choose wrong, or if the Mush uses
Transfer to switch bodies. It also has no utility after the mush hunt is over.
If Mush
Caffeine Junkie is a poor choice, as the crew will expect you to be drinking coffee (and then wonder why you aren't gaining extra
from it). However, pulling/drinking coffee can give you an excuse to get dirty.
Solid can help you massacre your crewmates when the time is right.
Paranoid providing an extra camera may disadvantage your team, but the crew might wonder why you've skipped such a useful ability...
Astrophysicist gives you a good reason to take a bed, and it allows you to sabotage your oxygen-starved crewmates.
As a Mush, Gioele's generalist nature can be his greatest asset. Volunteer for dirtying activities (like loading fuel) and move around the ship to try to infect your teammates. Combinations of skills like
Fungal Kitchen,
Trapper,
Fertile, and
Splashproof could be very rewarding.
Trivia
- Since Gioele is
Paola's father, the two are unable to Do the thing with each other. They are the only characters to hold this distinction.
