Skill Description Kept if Icon Mush?
ShrinkShrink
  • On cycle change, restore 1 Morale to all crewmates who are lying down in your room. You also have a chance to cure their Disorders.
  • For 1Action Point , you can comfort a crewmate to give them +2 Morale.
Yes
IT ExpertIT Expert Gain 2 IT Point per day (max 4), which let you perform free actions in several areas (including Research, Projects, Astrophysics, and Communications). Yes
NERON's Only FriendNERON's Only Friend The entire crew will progress icon Projects with maximum efficiency (e.g. a relay that would normally advance 12-18% will now always advance 18% on a relay). Yes
DiplomatDiplomat
  • During expeditions, cancels the possibility of combat.
  • Once per game, you can declare a ceasefire for 1Action Point, which prevents any aggressive actions for 3 cycles in the room where it is declared.
Yes
Radio ExpertRadio Expert Doubled efficiency when establishing contact with Sol. Increases the effectiveness of teammates' attempts to contact Sol by 50% (while in the same room). Yes
Self-sacrificeSelf-sacrifice If your Morale drops to 0, you lose 1HP per cycle instead of committing suicide. Yes but no effect

Tips

  • By default, you are the ship's NERON administrator. Remember to adjust the BIOS settings via the terminal in the Nexus.
  • Stay in the dorms so that people lying in beds can benefit from your passive Morale gain.
Keep your channels open so that crew members in other parts of the ship can request comforting should their Morale get low.
  • If you take DiplomatDiplomat, expect to become a regular part of expedition crews. You may also be needed on the Bridge when making trades.

Skill Notes

  • ShrinkShrink is essential for Janice, and is by far her most important skill. Without it, the crew will greatly struggle to maintain their morale, and they will have no reliable way to cure disorders. Always take this!
  • IT ExpertIT Expert saves Janice up to 4 Action Point/day, allowing her to more efficiently participate in Research and Projects. It also makes it easier to use the Hacker Kit Hacker Kit when dealing with an uncooperative Commander.
  • NERON's Only FriendNERON's Only Friend appears good on the surface, but the Action Point it saves is overall negligible compared to IT Expert.
  • DiplomatDiplomat is very important on expeditions, as it helps guarantee good results in certain zones. It is especially good when searching for Eden, as it increases the chances of finding a Starmap Fragment Starmap Fragment in Crystalite zones. Finally, your ceasefire ability can be an excellent defense against a rampaging Icon Mush.
  • Radio ExpertRadio Expert is not very useful for you. You should mainly be staying in the dormitories and the Nexus, not the Bridge.
  • Self-sacrificeSelf-sacrifice, while useful, is extremely situational and shouldn't be prioritized over better skills.

Recommendation:

If Mush

  • A Mush Janice may have a hard time managing her AP, since she's not prioritized to get a bed. However, since you're expected to move back and forth between the dormitories to provide your passive morale bonus, you'll have good opportunities to sneakily extract spores. FertileFertile and SplashproofSplashproof may help you out here.
    • Watch out for Icon Chao or Icon Andie, who may get suspicious if you move between showers too often.
  • When you move around the ship to Comfort people, you may find good opportunities to use other methods of contamination (like TrapperTrapper and Fungal KitchenFungal Kitchen).
  • If you end up in a crowded room, cause confusion and act in the shadows with DefacerDefacer or NinjaNinja. Coordinate with the other Icon Mush for maximum impact!
